Reassembling water heater

To reassemble a water heater, an electric one in this case, one needs plumbing tools that are commonly used and approved pipe joint for portable water. One also needs a voltmeter or a circuit tester. To begin with, if the house has been fitted with copper pipes, one should have an installation kit that does not require any soldering. If the pipes are plastic, one will need connectors for the plastic pipes used. It is always advisable to read the instructions carefully before cutting water pipes.

One should turn off the circuit breaker. In some homes there are fuses, they should be removed. The disconnect switch of the water heater should be off. Checking the power wires with a circuit tester to ensure that the circuit is off is also recommended because some circuit breakers could happen to be marked.

The second step is to open the hot water nozzle and have the hot or warm water run to the point it is cool. Then, one should turn off the cold water reservoir and leave the hot water nozzle open to drain the tank. One should connect the drain valve to the garden hose and fix the other end of the hose outside in a bucket. One should then open the water heater’s drain valve and as the water is draining, read through instructions on installation. The next step is to remove the water heater by disconnecting the power and water lines.

To start the reassembling, one should begin with installing the hot and cold water lines and since the all connections are nonmetallic, one is advised to avoid soldering pipes to these connections but instead solder adapters that are threaded. One should then fill the tank.

The next step is to open a hot water nozzle; at first one will get air, then sputtering and lastly full flow. To ensure that the tank is filled completely, one should let the hot water run for some minutes. After the tank is filled, one should connect electric power. Consulting the installation instructions, one should connect all the circuits and remember to connect the ground wire. It is important to make sure that all the steps have been completed successfully before turning the electrical power on. Lastly, one should set the thermostat and check water pressure.
